The Duchess Deal Novels & Stories

My best friend and I. A witch and a Fae from Whisperwood. I have the blood of a Seer. My three rune bones can see a kingdom's rise and fall. She's a gold-touched Fae. Born to attract wealth. One roll of the dice in a goblin casino, and she'd empty their vault. When we were eighteen, we found a disgraced Grand Duke in the capital's slums. His stepmother had thrown him out. We saved him. She amassed his gold. I spun his fate. We helped him claw his way back to the capital. He took back his land. His scepter. The first thing he did? He asked my best friend to marry him. They had a son. A gifted heir. I grew tired of the noble squabbles. I went back to my hidden cottage in the woods. Ten years l

His smirk only grew more and he stepped even closer to me as he repeated the moves he did to me the first time we met, took a strand of my hair and played with it. "What kind of deal, Princess?" He was smooth, I'll give him that because I know he knew what I was about to offer, he seemed smart enough to understand. "one year of an arranged marriage that'll serve both of us." I trailed off as I tried to read his attractive blue eyes but I couldn't read him... I doubt that anyone can. I pulled away from him to extend my hand to him as I said "So what do you say, Raymond Dalton?" He looked as if he might refuse for a second and that made fear creep in my mind but suddenly he took my hand in his

Then the Duchess waved him away. "Leave us," she said. The butler bowed and left them. Much to Clare's surprise, they were alone together for the first time. Clare's mind and body were in a sparring mode, waiting for whatever the Duchess was about to deliver. For all she knew, it could be that she had torn off their contracts and was going to announce that Clare had twenty-four hours to pack and go home.

Suddenly, the duchess spoke, "I know that it's a hard thing to grant but before I leave the capital and have a treatment somewhere, I wante dto see him with you as his partner once again just like on your debutante. The truth is, I don't want to push this one to you but I just really wanted to see you two together but if it's really troublesome, then please just refuse my request" she said and sniffed her nose a bit. There was a slight tear on her face and looking at it, she really looks pitiful. I never read a part on the novel that the duchess got sick so I was surprised and confused about it for a moment. Did the author perhaps didn't include this as well? Well maybe. Just like the duche

I nodded. "Fine. I'll go back." The doctor had already given me my diagnosis. Consumption. I had only a month left to live. So I went back. And I played the part of the perfect duchess. I no longer demanded Alistair's loyalty. I even found him three new mistresses who looked just like Liana and sent them to his bed after he had sent her away for me. I no longer made Damian study the arts of statecraft and not forced him to master his courtly duties. Instead, I supported his ridiculous dream of joining the Expeditionary Force.

Once this is over, I’d love to look at a treaty between the Valkyrie and the Gearless Knights if you’re willing. The Duchess: Sounds great, Ironclad. We’ll cross that bridge soon. I hung up, jumping to my feet and yelling at Karma to pull everyone in, telling her Shorty needs her laptop. KARMA Within minutes, I had everyone rounded up and in the chapel, glad that it sounded like the Duchess had good news. That was right up until I walked in and saw her twiddling a knife between her fingers. “What’s happening, D?” I asked, sinking into my usual seat on her right.

"Perhaps you've got an excellent idea, after all." She smiled. "Yes. And you can always have those decadent Cyprians over when the season is at the end." Her smile had grown even more maliciously gleeful. "I understand you have a new opera singer in your stable of ladybirds that will tide you over nicely until then." "My dear duchess," Henry said with deceptive calm, "you have the tongue of a billingsgate fishwife." "Do I?" The duchess asked with a lifted brow. "Perhaps I've been around my nephew too much."

The man just nodded, then looked at Ariana as usual. “Why did you buy them?” Duke Andrew asked curiously. His granddaughter is now a smart girl who is always careful in making decisions. The Duke believes her decision this time must also be made with careful calculations. “I bought Cornell because I was indebted to him in the past. As for Carla … I got it for free after buying Cornell. She's a seriously ill girl right now, so the arena in charge feels there's no point for the good to stay alive. I've already called the doctor to check on her. Luckily, the disease is still treatable, and will probably recover with intensive care for a few months.”

Victoria’s breath caught. Thomas’s gaze darkened. “An offer?” The Duke’s smile was slow and deliberate. “Yes.” He turned to Victoria. “For your wife.” Silence slammed into the room. Victoria’s heart stopped. Thomas’s fingers curled against the desk. “You dare?” The Duke’s smirk didn’t waver. “I do.” Victoria forced herself to speak. “I am not some commodity to be bargained over.” The Duke’s gaze flicked to her, something unreadable flickering in his eyes. “No, my lady, you are not. But we both know your husband does not see it that way.”

He ordered as he passed the child to be cleaned. He went outside the room to meet his mother and his friend, Ben patiently waiting for him without being at each other’s throat. “The duchess passed away after pushing out an heir to the family.” He informed nonchantly. His face held no emotions as he spoke, which made Ben wondered why he had a change of mind.
