The Wrong Mr Calloway
“You don’t have to do anything alone.”
I looked at him. “Stay with me.”
“I’m not going anywhere.”
Roman walked toward the door, and a few moments later it opened slowly. The elderly woman from the security footage stepped inside, gray hair, kind eyes, simple clothes, exactly as she’d appeared on camera, though the footage hadn’t captured how nervous she looked now, standing just a few feet away from me.
Neither of us spoke at first. Finally she smiled, sadly, her voice shaking.
“So. You really do have Gerald’s eyes.”
