Megan's firm went into a freefall, with partners fleeing after siphoning off funds. The few mutual friends who stayed behind took turns calling me. "Zachary, you have to help Megan. Can you really bear to watch her life's work flush down the drain? Besides, you built that firm together. You shouldn't want to see it collapse either, right? One of the women identified this one," he said, pointing to one of them. "The other woman said neither of them was the man she married. The one who wasn't identified refused to give a statement, but the other one doesn't know the system. He only ever communicated with one person. He just did what was asked of him for a certain amount of money. This is starting to feel bigger than we thought. The guys marrying these women look like just pawns. I don't think it’s some small-time gang business."
