After father's announcement, Laura disappeared, leaving me to see the guests out and make sure no one was wandering the halls or poking their heads in places they shouldn't be.

“Bye,” I waved to the last guest with a smile, standing in the middle of the courtyard to watch the car retreat and move past the gates until the only thing I could see was a wink of light in the distance.

Thinking I could now have some quiet time, Dylan materialized out of thin air, a pensive look on his face. “Your father wants to see you in his office….now.”

My stomach curled at that news.

The look on Dylan's face already told me that whatever this is, it wouldn't be good.

Without saying a word, I went up the stairs, turning the corner, and walked down the hallway that took me to my father's office.

As I stepped foot in there for the second time today, I was reminded of the look on Laura's face when I caught her snooping.
