We didn't know if she could hear us, but we hoped our words could give her strength and hope.

I looked at Julien, seeing the disappointment and anger that radiated from his eyes. I knew what he was feeling. I felt the same way. This is crazy, it's really crazy. How could it be in such modern times, there are still villages that are remote and difficult to reach, with very minimal health facilities? How could someone's life depend on such a long and dangerous journey?
