The word brothers kept repeating in Sophia’s mind again and again. She looked at the three men, Alexander, Damian, and Lorenzo. searching their faces for anything she recognized, something she could believe. “No,” she said quietly, her hand shaking as she held the knife. “That can’t be true. I would remember. I would know if I had brothers.” Alexander’s expression softened, but there was sadness in his eyes. “You were very little when it happened,” he said gently. “We were older. You might remember us as the boys who played with you in the garden, who built blanket forts, who read you bedtime stories.”

She opened the door looking alarmed. “Hi Brook, sorry, I am looking for my brother. I want to ask him something and it can’t wait. Could you wake him up for me? I promise I won’t be long.” I said in the sweetest voice I could master. “He is not here; I am not sure where he is. We went to bed together. Where could he be?” she asked looking around the room.

Even in moments of peace, I remain vigilant, always on edge, always searching. In my study, I sit hunched over my laptop, scanning through files and databases, desperately trying to find any trace of my half-brother. Despite our advanced technology and the network of contacts at my disposal, he remains elusive. It's as if he’s a ghost, slipping through every net I cast. Just then, Mark walks in, his presence a surprising interruption. “Got any leads?” he asks, casually leaning against the doorway. I glance up, my brows furrowed in confusion. “Why are you asking?”

The next day, I received a message from Ethan. Luckily I was alone when the phone buzzed. I kept it on silent just in case. Ethan's message simply read, “I think I've found her.” My heart stopped for a moment. I read the message three more times. Ethan had a lead on my mother. My fingers shook as I sent back my response. “Where?” I typed.

I think, “I saw my brother. My actual brother. I don’t get it though. I haven’t seen my brother in nearly two years, and then, out of nowhere, he appeared right before me. How? And where did my brother go afterward?” Shortly after the police officers arrested Heavy Metal and left, I run back to the courtyard and searched for my brother. I run around the whole place, looking for him, but I can’t find him anywhere. Most likely, I would have spent the whole night looking for him if the others had not come and gotten me. I push myself up and sit.

I shrug, even though he can’t see it. “Do you have any family?” he asks, completely ignoring my previous response. “I have a little brother.” I tell him. “Back in your pack?” “No,” I sigh, realizing just how much I miss him now that I am finally close enough to find him. “No? Then where is he?” He asks, confused. “Out here.” I say, looking around the beautiful landscape. I can hear the trickling of water and chirping of birds in the trees and I feel hope flooding in. Jude has to be out here. I know for a fact he isn’t dead. I would feel it, the way I felt the loss of my parents.

“Actually, I came to tell you I’m heading to Michigan for a few days. My parents need me to sort out some paperwork for them.” My eyebrows rose. “So… you mean I’ll be alone here? With your brother?” Her grin widened. “Yeah. Don’t worry, though. He’s got some errands to run for my dad’s company. I doubt he’ll even be around.” I tried to keep my face neutral, but my pulse stuttered. Zayne. Even the sound of his name did strange things to me lately. Ever since that night on the balcony, I couldn’t shake him off my mind. I didn’t even know why. I should’ve been angry. Embarrassed maybe. Anything but drawn in.

Silence stretched between us, heavy and charged. “Why were you even there?” I asked after a beat, voice shaking. It wasn’t his pack. “Believe it or not,” he said with a quiet chuckle, “I was looking for my half-brother. He’d gone to a party in Moonveil. I hadn’t heard from him, and I got worried. I was tracking his scent when I came across you. I did find him, passed out a few yards from your home.” Just like that.

The next day my dad had begun the search for my brother with his pictures all over the news and also a cash reward of one million dollars was to be offered to anyone who could give him tangible information about Scott's whereabouts but that didn't help at all. The funniest thing is that Alyssa has also been absent from school for the past two weeks that my brother has been missing. Could it be that she knows something about my brother's whereabouts?
