“Wait a minute. Are you the Professor Brown that I emailed when I left the hospital?” “Yes?” He chuckles. “But you are Doctor Brown.” “My title as a professor was still not official, so I preferred to be called doc.” “And you are my boss and my professor?” I eye him skeptically. He raises a brow, as if to say ‘obviously’. I close my eyes and take a deep breath. What’s with my luck? I’m trying not to think about this person and spending more time with him will make that impossible. I take out my phone to check if there are any other lecturers available for the module, and I only find Professor Brown.

“Mr. Cole, Miss Lessie. The Vice Chancellor is expecting you.” She gestured toward the double doors. I took a deep breath. “This is it,” I muttered under my breath. Taide pushed the door open, and we stepped inside. Three professors were already seated: Professor Clive from Political Science, Dr. Alara from Media Studies, and of course Professor Dante. My heart nearly stopped at the sight of him. He was sitting calmly beside the others, dressed in his usual black, one leg crossed over the other, hands folded loosely in his lap.

"Have you seen him? I found his faculty photo and wow. Like, criminally attractive. It should be illegal to look that good and teach ethics. The irony, right?" Every word was a knife. I wanted to tell her to stop, that I didn't care, that Micaiah Hayes could be a male model for all I cared and it wouldn't matter to me. But my voice wouldn't work. "Anyway." Stephanie finally released my arm. "We should exchange numbers. I can fill you in on all the campus drama you missed. There's a lot. Like, a lot a lot." She pulled out her phone expectantly, and I found myself typing in my number because what else was I supposed to do? Tell her that the hot new professor was my stepbrother? That I'd slept

My heart stopped. “I am,” I said, standing slowly. “The professor wants to see you in his office.” My chest tightened. “Which professor?” I asked, already knowing the answer. “Professor Kane.” What? Everything inside me froze.

“Hi, I’m looking for Steven. . .uh. . .Professor Steven. . .” I trailed off and gave her a small smile. “I’m sorry I forgot his last name.” The elderly woman waved her hand and gave me a friendly smile. “It happens to all of us. Is he expecting you?” I was about to shake my head, but decided against it and gave her a nod instead. She told me that I could find him in his office and then handed me a map with the path to it marked clearly with a black pen.

I was done. I spetmt the rest of my day inside my room listening to my favourite music, and reminiscing on Elias that was until my phone buzzed, pulling me out of my trian of thought. My brows twisted into knots, wrinkles appearing on my forehead. I pondered on who's number it could be that was until I picked up the call. “Hello dear. It's professor Lucas. I was wondering if you're free for us to talk tonight.” I was stunned and I felt my throat dry up. I tried to talk and for a few seconds I struggled.

“Oh please prof, you know exactly what I'm capable of. I always get what I want “, I said folding my arms. “Go daddy…get ready for your next lecture, by the way, I loved the sex”, I whispered, brushing my lips on his neck. I walked away without hearing his response. Nothing makes me happier than knowing that the tough professor people know has fallen for me. I searched for Karen everywhere but I didn't see her. She was fast for someone who spent most of her time sitting in the front rows and raising her hand. I checked the stairwell, the library entrance, the bathroom on the second floor and the common area outside the science block and found nothing.

My chest rose unevenly, my pulse spiking so fast. What is he doing here…? The head professor cleared his throat. “Good morning, everyone.” I didn’t hear anything else. My eyes were locked on the same face I had been too close to just hours ago. Fuck. “I’ll be introducing your new professor for this course.” My heart skipped, then slammed hard against my ribs. I swallowed, throat dry. No. No, no, no— “Thiago De la Cruz.” The name echoed. A wave of murmurs spread across the hall, but it sounded distant like I was underwater.

His dark brown hair was neatly styled, and his gentle gaze encompassed us all. He had gentle features yet there was something about him that attracted me to him. “Good morning, everyone,” he began, setting his materials down on the desk. His voice was deep and smooth, with just a hint of an accent that I couldn’t quite place. “I’m Professor Farid Reign, and I’ll be guiding you through Advanced Theoretical Physics this semester. We’re going to delve into the complexities of quantum mechanics, explore the difficulties of string theory, and discuss the latest developments in cosmology.”
