I spat, “and he’s going through a hard time. Unlike you, I actually care about people.”
Aiden leaned forward, his eyes narrowing dangerously. “Careful, princess ,” he said, his voice a low growl. “The way you say that makes it sound like I don’t care about you.”
I laughed bitterly, pushing my chair back and standing up. “You don’t care about anyone but yourself, Aiden. Don’t pretend otherwise.” I turned to leave, my pulse pounding in my ears.
But before I could take another step, he caught my wrist and pulled me back, his grip firm and unyielding. “Sit down,” he ordered, his voice cold. “We’re not finished.”
