Vaelith surged forward a ripple of shadows and flame. Her limbs twisted into weapons, clawed and serpentine. Calder charged in first, his silver sword blazing with rune-light, but Vaelith struck him aside like a child’s toy.
Theron summoned a storm of frost, slowing her momentarily, but not enough. Aria dove forward, blade drawn, the bone sword of Elaron, a relic from the altar she’d chosen in Chapter 4. It screamed as it met Vaelith’s form, not in sound, but soul. Light exploded from the blade’s edge, burning away some of Vaelith’s shadow. She recoiled, writhing, snarling. “You dare use his weapon?”
