The metal caught the light with a deadly gleam as he raised it high, aiming for my chest. I caught it with my bare hand, pain tore through me as the blade sliced into my palm, hot blood rushing down my arm. But I didn’t let go, I forced myself upright, stumbling backward, the taste of iron rising in my throat. My body swayed, but I clenched my teeth and steadied myself, shaking my head, trying to awaken the fury that slept inside me.
