“With that being said, this is the apocalypse. No one cares about marriage anymore. As long as you stop making things difficult for Mark, I don’t mind keeping you as my secret affair.”
She flirtatiously twirled a strand of her hair, but all I could smell from her was something faintly scorched.
I stepped back, widening the distance between us, and spoke calmly, “Janine, I don’t do affairs. And besides, we’ve had nothing to do with each other for a long time.”
Frustration flashed across her face. She grabbed my wrist again, unwilling to let go.
