It was carrying a steel pitchfork and heading in their direction. After a moment, the figure of the snake monster appeared in the mist. Seeing the bodies of the snake monster on the ground, the giant snake monster roared and raised the pitchfork in its hand. It stabbed directly into the mist. I asked Cool while staring at the gnarling creature in front of us. "That's a Pillie." My forehead creased upon hearing that familiar word. "Pillie? You mean?" He nodded with my unfinished question. "Yes, that thing over there used to be a flamia or a glacia. The darkess had made her like that." He said as he stares at the creature with pity.

His bright yellow eyes with black slit pupils scanned the hatch before a long, forked tongue quickly flicked out, freezing me on the spot. That wasn’t Rolf! Who was that?! His slender, curved fangs were dripping with saliva when he stretched his slender neck upwards to finish off the meat, sucking each long, bone-coloured nail clean. I saw the thing’s face was pointed into a curve at the front, just like a snake. A snake. Why did he have to be a snake? The thing must have been seven foot tall. Its long neck was the thing that made me most uncomfortable; seeing its head up where it shouldn’t be only fuelled my fear.

Inside, coiled elegantly around a smooth branch, was a beautiful, slender corn snake, its scales like liquid amber and chestnut. The boy…Lukas…who rarely smiled, felt a grin split his face. It was a real, bright thing that made his mother pause in the doorway. He was transfixed. “I’m naming it… Zhedya,” he announced, his eyes never leaving the creature. “Is that even a real name?” his mother asked, her nose wrinkling slightly. “It suits him. I just made it up, because it does,” Lukas replied, his tone leaving no room for argument.

Glacy crouched under a bridge, staring at her bloodstained palms. “Stupid girl,” she muttered to herself, her voice thick with tears she tried to hide. “You should have known better than to let her speak.” The water below rippled and a small snake slithered towards her ankle. She recognized the snake, one of the ones born of Tilly’s spilled blood, its scales still slick with crimson, eyes raw and rimmed with red. It looked up at her.

The fangs came within an inch of her hand; she looked up to see Willow holding the head of the snake. “A black mamba, very deadly, and if this thing had bitten you, well, just say that you wouldn’t have to worry about any vampires anymore.” Willow put the snake back in the box and sealed it with a spell. The snake wasn’t happy at first, but soon calmed. The second box didn’t hiss and smelled like flowers. When she opened the second box, she gasped and then smiled. Inside was a bouquet of mixed lilies and wild flowers. Tears stung her eyes when she picked up the card. Your eyes melt my heart, touch my soul, and call out for what could be…
