I’m not sure if it’s the vibrations of my growl or my control of her neck, but the voices become quiet and all I can hear are wracking sobs in my head. Oh Zephyr, my poor, distraught girl. She lands again, almost as if she’s forgotten me on her back. She lifts her head to the sky and screams. This time, it’s a scream of anguish, rather than rage. I look around, afraid to move, knowing that once she remembers that I’m here, the fight will be back on.

I can only hear them. "I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. " That’s Sabrina- I mean Racheal- I mean the stable hands voice! She chants the words desperately before screaming at something. "I love you! I love you, please. I'm sorry! Can't you see I love you!" Why do her cries alternate from pleading to proclaiming? What the hell? Is she being tortured or not? I want to open the door and stop whatever is happening, but for some reason, I can't move.

Little by little, her skin began glowing startlingly as her eyes glistened with innocence. The group of four suddenly heard a loud, screeching cry that sounded to belong to a bird — a very peculiar one. Melpomene swiftly shuddered to the rhythms of the cry and covered her body with her arms. She inquiringly stared at Liam who quickly shifted in her direction, embracing her in his arms.

I can no longer hold back as I yelp and howl in pain. Madilyn jumps between us. She yelps briefly before I manage to grab her and curl my body around her. The screams around me are deafening. I somehow manage to separate out at least three more voices in addition to Lucas’s, Madilyn’s and my own but none of them make any sense.

“I told you to run, didn’t I? I told you what was going to happen when I caught you, but no, you wanted to scratch me, you wanted to mouth off, you wanted to make me bleed. Look at you now, Lyra. On the ground, crying, finally shutting that pretty little mouth long enough to scream for someone who isn’t here.” “I’m not shutting up!” I screamed right back even though my voice was cracking and wobbling like I was dangling over the edge of the world. “Damon! Damon, please, I’m scared! I fell, I landed on my belly, oh God, my babies—please somebody help me!”

We had been getting a lot of animal attacks over the last week. “Shit it’s Dutch” Layla cries pushing forward to sniff the air, then I hear her scream and my heart shatters. This isn’t a banshee scream this is a scream of pain and anxiety. I round the corner and stop, gasping as we end up in a scene you could only imagine would happen in the movies.

Hyden dropped to his knees with a sound half sob, half snarl. “Mama!” Harvey screamed. “It hurts!” “I know, baby. I know.” My arms went around them, though their small bodies writhed like they didn’t fit inside themselves anymore. “Don’t hold your breath. Breathe it out. Always breathe it out. I’ve got you. Mama’s here.” Their spines bowed. Joints popped like distant firecrackers. Their skin rippled as if something beneath pressed hard against it. “Why are they screaming?” Lily cried, trying to rush past Daisy.

Then again who am I to say what would work and what wouldn’t. “Shela, there has to be-” “I’m going to shift now, get ready! Give me all you got!” She shouts and suddenly roars a very loud and screechy roar. She started to shift into her chimera form and soon completed it before I could coach her against it. She started to laugh evilly as she began destroying the room we were in. “Shela! Stop it! What the hell are you doing!” I shouted over her demolition sounds. Just laughed again while speaking.

Without showing any sign of pain, Rumelia expressionlessly, quietly, fainted on her spot without making a single excessive sound. As soon as she falls, her marionettes then stop— one-by-one they lifelessly crash down to the snow like a broken doll. “I-I did it…!” Sherry shouts happily. “Nice job— Eh…? Sherry watch out…!” “KYAAA—!? NNGH…!!!!?” Before Sherry could hear me— I could clearly hear her scream when three ice spears that came raining from the sky forks her down to the snow. It was Kuroyuki— the girl that I’m still hugging did this to her.

I reached out, and the second my fingers brushed a petal— SCREECH. The bloom tore itself open, shadows spilling out in a rush as silver light burst from its core. The sound that followed wasn’t just a scream…it was a *chorus* of them, hundreds of voices shrieking at once. The ground shook lightly and the Alphas stumbled back, their hands clapped over their ears. And then… A flash. A face. Someone who looked just like me. She was crying, and trying to mouth words but I couldn't exactly lip read it.
