I guess now I’ll be able to say I went without food for 3 days as well. I pulled one of the books off the shelf, rolling my eyes at the title, “Cooking for the beginner.” I chuckled, “unless you have water dishes in you, you’ll be of no use to me.” I flipped to the first page and began reading. The book was about different herbs and spices that could be used to create soups. Bringing the book over to the desk, I opened the cabinet and began sniffing the contents to identify each one. I wrote them all down on a piece of paper numbered the way I placed them back into the cabinet. I bit of pride bloomed in my chest and Scarlett chuckled, “that was all me, don’t be so proud of yourself.”

Bima’s eyes widened as a wild idea took root. "This is it!" Bima exclaimed, his voice hushed. His thumb stopped on a page decorated with an image of Indomie paired with a Wi-Fi icon and a balanced nutrition chart. "Green Signal Indomie Recipe: Anti-Stalker Special!" Bima read the title rapidly. "What is that, Bima?" Riska asked, her eyes fixed on the book. "It’s a secret recipe for the Stalker Zombies!" Bima declared. "It can turn them into agents of balanced nutrition!"

“I should make breakfast. What do you want?” Just as Ivara parted her lips to answer, he waved her off. “Forget it, I'll figure it out.” He muttered, pulling out a small book from his pocket. An actual cookery book. He began flipping through it with a focused expression. “What is something you would like... let me see...” He turned a page. Turned another. His nose wrinkled. “None of this looks edible. Ewww. How do people eat this?” he kept reading. “I'd always pick hearts and souls over any of this. Honestly, I don't understand why —”

And then she saw the books. She gasped, her eyes widening and her hand covering her mouth. Leather-bound volumes with gold-embossed titles: Escoffier's Le Guide Culinaire, a culinary Bible. She knew the name. Every chef did. More treasures followed: Essentials of Italian Cooking, and tomes of French, Japanese, African, Latin American cuisine. The collective knowledge of culinary masters from around the world. A lifetime of learning, pressed into the spines right before her eyes. She felt her throat tighten so much that she was breathless for a moment.

’ she thought, confused. Mel brushed off the thought and decided not to bother herself with Bjorn this night. She went ahead with her plan to make friends with the other women of Grime, heading over to some of the female encampments, glad she wasn’t the only one dressed in the ridiculous attire. Supper that evening consisted of spicy mutton soup which disturbed Mel as she had never really fancied spicy dishes. The women assured her that there were varying degrees of how the dish could be prepared and they made the exception of preparing a milder variation for Mel, something she insisted she could do without.
