Most often than not football players were seen as cocky, flirty, playboys, and assholes. Or maybe that was only for those that have read too many teenfic novels. Yet here he was being kind to a complete stranger. I was bracing myself for the flirty comments to start but so far none have come. "Thank you." I whispered. He really didn't have to bring me here and clean me up. He probably had better things to do with his time.

And now, it's my time to roll my eyes at her, knowing I'm about to hear another one of her sexual escapades. “Mav Tanner. Engineering Department. Soccer Team Captain and Striker. 6’2”. Totally ripped and totally sexy.” I should have known… Can't say I'm surprise that she knows Tanner. I mean they're both populars in the campus, so their paths will eventually cross, but I didn't know that even my best friend was not immune to his charms. “From what I’ve heard he is a player. And not just in soccer.” I warned her but then she smiled at me. Her devilish smile, that I knew she was about to do some thing really crazy.

The name sounded vaguely familiar. "Yep. He was on the 1989 team, the one that won the Super Bowl against Denver. So he played with some of the greats, but from what Dawn says and the research I've done, Allan wasn't really a star. He was a defensive end, played well enough, but you know." She lifted a shoulder. "Just a supporting player." "So why's he writing a book?" In my mind, most football players had very little business writing a book. Who the hell wanted to read about what we did on the field, unless it was in the Monday morning newspaper?

The football practices have made the guys quite busy. I turn on my heels to leave the spot, earning a protest from Stephanie. "Geez, Emily. Can you give me some more time to look at those eye candies?" she jokes, and I laugh. "Are you not interested to know about our football team?" "I know enough to write a novel about them. My brother is the quarterback," I blurt out, making Stephanie abruptly stop in her tracks. She gasps wildly and grabs my hand to make me stop walking. "Are you saying that Peter Stoneheart is your brother?" I turn around to face her.

I was in a quiet room with a man who liked me for my mind, not my arm. I turned back to my book and started reading again. The football career was dead, and for the first time, I felt like I was finally alive.
