The hairs on my arms stand at his words, but my overwhelming want boulders them down. I missed my fucking family. I missed them more than I knew it was possible to miss another living thing. I missed their wildness, the obnoxious amount of noise they made when we were all together, and the utter turmoil that could arise because of it. I missed their love, the abundant love that ran between us all. I missed that more than anything.

It made things honest. The motorcycle club sat back from the road behind a long stretch of battered fencing and sun-bleached mesquite, its low buildings and corrugated roofs half-hidden by the desert glare. Rows of bikes lined the lot like sleeping beasts, chrome dulled by grit and distance. A faded hand-painted sign hung over the main hall, the letters rough but proud. Her father’s place. His kingdom. Not elegant like Paris or controlled like Houston. This place was all steel, loyalty, and scars that never bothered pretending they were something else.

A crest with three vertical slashes through a crescent moon. Enzo’s. I don’t say anything. Just stare. My jaw clenches so tight I feel my molars grind. “His pack was disbanded,” Micah says cautiously. “Right?” “Supposedly.” I step closer, heart hammering. “But this… this isn’t nostalgia. This is a message.” A challenge. I touch the blood—still tacky. Less than 12 hours old. “He’s not sending rogues,” I murmur. “He’s sending loyalists.”

K’ Kian was a corrupt, slippery fish who always cleaned up his trail even if he had to cover it up with the blood of others. Mr Tibe was a man — maybe an entity with how hard it was to lay eyes on him — who sold everything illegal, with roots of power embedded so deep in the state, his empire might still be standing after I’d take him down. But that's okay, if I have to cut down every fucking branch myself, then that's what I'll do. I'd already lost someone to that, and while I didn't have any more siblings, I had a mom. And she had friends that had siblings.

That wave of pain caused me to lose control of the delivery van, which in turn caused me to go over the cliff into a heavily wooded area of trees. Ok, so that much you know already. What you may not have figured out yet is that Boomer and Viper were amongst the bikers that surrounded me that day. They are part of a large —and growing— motorcycle club called the Howling Rogues. After I went off the cliff, they rescued me and brought me to their clubhouse where I was treated for my injuries.

I rushed into the emergency room at once. I felt so bad as I took in Sophia's weakened state. "Mom, I'm so sorry. I couldn't find Caleb." I could not bring myself to tell Sophia that Caleb had refused to come with me to the hospital. "You don't have to lie to me, Esther. Caleb is my son. I know him better than anyone else does. He must be with that woman again. "He chose to forsake me, his mother, because of that woman. What an ungrateful child!

“Actually, I shouldn’t reveal this secret, but I have no option because I may end up in another trouble if the person ever finds out I say a word about this.” “Don’t worry, you have my words and I will make sure nothing happens to you. I will provide enough security to protect you.” Mara promised. “The person I was speaking with yesterday was a loan shark…” Anna disclosed, and Mara interrupted, making a shocked tone. “Hun!” Anna tightened her lips, furthering, “it was a gang leader, who my father owed a huge amount of money before his death and after he died in a car accident, I have been struggling to repay the debt, but I still don’t have enough despite working for years,”

In fact, her father told her that their family only consisted of four people. "I guess Mary told you about Morillo and all. My entire family is in the mafia and I had to cut ties with them for my family's safety. But since Morillo is helping us, we have no other choice. Plus, Zio is really close to me." Linda looked at Mary. She was surprised how she silently accepted the offer instead of causing chaos. She hated the mafias. Even Linda was scared of them. The council consists of a high member of each leading pack in the continent. Their main office is in this pack but they visit all the packs from time to time. The comfort the elder strove to give to the people in the hall was slashed into pieces when one of the Alphas I saw Kieran speaking to earlier voiced, “We know nothing about them.” He added, his voice sly yet charming, “What exactly are they? What makes them so special?” I couldn’t stop myself from taking another look at him as he swirled a glass of dark wine. He was breathtakingly handsome, with a mysterious, sharp elegance that felt different from the other Alphas. “That is Alpha Jason,” Kieran whispered in my ear. “From the Shadow Fang Pack. He is as dangerous as he is unpredictable.” The elder beside Rexton answered, “They could be Alphas, warriors, or individuals of various ranks. But w
