Fortune's Forgotten Daughter

Fortune's Forgotten Daughter

"Oh, my poor sentimental trash panda." "I am not crying." "I mean, you were. You're basically crying now." Anya gave her the finger. Zoe gasped. Carla raised her brows. "Didn't even make it to the wine before the birthday breakdown. We are ahead of schedule." They laughed. The kind of laugh that only comes after surviving too much. The kind that holds a little crack in the middle. Outside the windows, Brooklyn buzzed with quiet life: traffic lights blinking, someone yelling in Spanish on the sidewalk, a dog barking from a rooftop. But inside the apartment, warmth pulsed like a heartbeat.

Unforgettable Encounter

Unforgettable Encounter

I stutter. I gasp as a large forearm presses against my throat, holding me against the elevator wall. I drop my bag, reaching up at the stranger's arm, trying to pry it from my neck. Black specks begin to cloud my vision as I continue clawing and begging for air. I look at the face of my attacker. "Hello, Kristine." Johnathan Harris's eyes stare down at me as he pushes harder against my throat. "We need to talk."

The Fatal Favor

The Fatal Favor

Eric jolted awake with a cry, cold sweat running down his back. The mansion was engulfed in darkness, with only a pale strip of moonlight through the window offering light to the room. His stomach lurched. He staggered up to get some water, but as he passed the bedroom, he heard a voice. Mia. "Evelyn's dead. Eric's drinking himself senseless every day. Don't worry. The pup is yours. Once I'm named Luna and the pack's assets are in my hands, we'll disappear. Just wait a bit longer. Alright. Love you."

Fated by fire and fortune

Fated by fire and fortune

Shadows exploded outward in a wave of darkness—and then began to unravel. Lucian’s eyes widened, his grip on his sword faltering. “No… this isn’t… how it ends…” Selene met his gaze, unwavering. “It ends with the light, Lucian. It ends with hope.” The darkness receded like a dying storm. Lucian crumpled, his armor cracking, shadows fleeing his body like rats from a sinking ship. His final breath was a ragged exhalation—then nothing but silence. Selene staggered back, exhausted, the Lunaris Blade now dull and lifeless in her hand.

The Lottery of Fate

The Lottery of Fate

That day, I was walking along the beach as usual. The sky was heavy with storm clouds, the kind that collapsed without warning. I was about to turn back when something rustled in the jungle. Something moving low, fast, animal-like. I froze, not knowing whether to step forward or dodge. And then, Adrian burst out from the other side of the path. Everything slowed. I turned, confused, and saw it. The muzzle of a gun spitting fire. A bullet slicing through the air toward my back.

There wasn’t going to be a trail to follow since that traitorous Xaviar had flown off with her. I had barely finished skimming over the short document when Fredrick entered, his expression one of defeat. Miriam’s voice was still on a loop in my mind. I refused to give up hope, though the lack of leads was frustrating. Fredrick’s face told me that whatever I had remembered from Miriam’s book was offering more frustration. I looked at him and waited. “Aro.” He started. “The seer is dead.”

She explained that when you see the horse, you're in deep trouble, and then she went on about how she had seen the horse in Ocean City while riding a Ferris wheel. Sunny's voice trembled as she recounted the eerie details of her encounter with the horse, emphasizing its piercing red eyes and ghostly presence. He remembered being hesitant back then but he was glad he then, it was then he found out that his father had been secretly poisoning him and his grandfather. The seal opened, and he pulled out the contents from inside the envelope only to see it was a single cue card.
