As soon as the sun came out, he stood up, stretching his back until he felt so much better. The way he had sat down while digging the dirt was so unsettling for him yet, he wasn’t bothered since he got what he wanted. Then, Phineas decided to head over to his room and get ready for the day. If his father is going to get married, and he is going to stop the wedding, of course he has to make a far better appearance. He quickly took his bath, then walked back into his bedroom and got into a suit that brought his muscles. “Now, let’s see how the wedding will take place.” He smirked, looking at his reflection in the mirror.

Frederick asked, raising an eyebrow. "You’re Frederick?" Phineas’s eyelids twitched. He never needed to know his targets' appearances. He relied on his snake slaves to track them by their scent. Thus, he had no idea what Frederick looked like. "Surprised?" Frederick asked with a grin. "I don’t know how you found me, but do you think finding me means you can beat me?" Phineas sneered. "Since you’re here, I’ll gladly take your life!" Smack!

The believers rushed at us immediately we broke out of the tree line, my eyes never moving from the moment they landed on him. Phineas is sitting next to one of the lit fires in a metal barrel. Without his usual smile and playful expression, the mask we all knew, he is a different person entirely. I don’t know why I thought he’d at least look remorseful or ashamed when he saw me but with the slightest tip of the corner of his mouth, he mouths, “He got in the way.” At that, every shred of rationality dissipates. I remember how Eldora wept the night Darien died. At the time, I didn’t know that was her voice but when I realized, it occurred to me that she valued him every bit as much as I did.

"No, go ahead and head back. We'll walk or run. We need a little time to ourselves." Phin looked at me skeptically, then turned to her. "You know how far away we are, right?" "Yeah," Cassy replied before I could answer. "That's the point. We're going to need a few moments." Phin hesitated, then nodded and climbed into the truck. "Alright, suit yourselves. But don't take too long. People are going to worry. And by people, I mean me." With that, he started the engine and drove off, the headlights fading into the distance.

Instead, he merely said, "Get some rest. If you need anything, just use the phone beside your bed to call for assistance." After speaking, Phineas mindfully left. He stood outside, pacing back and forth with his phone in hand. Phineas was torn, unsure whether to call Lewis and disclose the truth. He understood that revealing the truth might lead to trouble for himself, but if he kept silent and Lewis discovered the truth independently, the consequences could be even worse.

Then afterward, he shrugged it off like nothing. Phineas' sky-blue eyes brightened with mischief as he stared at me. I scoffed and looked at Stacy. "I need to go. Trouble has come to find me," The expression on Stacy's face made it clear she didn't like Phineas either. I didn't hate him, I just didn't like how bold, fearless, and annoying he was. There has to be something that scares a person, but Phineas has none. And even if he did have, he was a master at hiding his fears.

Speaking of which, the mage could only stare and I wonder if I should be the one to initiate the conversation. Despite the fact that I lacked clothes for a small chit-chat with an acquaintance of my husband’s. “Y-You’re Phineas, is that right?” Phineas was a powerful mage of the Skollist pack and he had been a great help during the war as both performing strong damage spells and healing abilities. When he wasn’t at war, he often stayed at his tower without leaving even once. Only the Alpha leader is capable of entering to his lair. “Yes,” he said, casually as he sat on the chair next to the bed. “And you must be the Hatiist nun who performed a reverse spell a month ago.”

The sky cracked again—another thunderous tear through the heavens—showering us in falling ash that hadn’t existed seconds ago. Phineas placed a hand on my shoulder, eyes steady despite the chaos above. “The world is shifting. Carter is slipping. And if you do not reach him first…” His voice lowered, grief threaded through the warning. “There will be no world left to save.” I looked at the bleeding sky, letting the fear in my chest harden into something sharper, hotter—something resolute. “Then let’s go.” Phineas nodded once. “Prepare yourself.” And as the world burned red overhead, we moved—toward the horses, toward the darkness, toward the fate that had finally come for us.

“No. Not directly. My name is Phineas.” Recognition was like a punch in the gut. I inclined my head to him. “You have my thanks, Phineas. The work you did, the information you were able to get to us…it made the difference.” I took in his changed state. “I’m sorry about the price.” He shook his head. “I understood the risks. I expected to die, to be honest. For a moment, while he had control, it was worse than death. But I would do it again.”

Helen was stupefied in turn—they only had a chance to make it out if they used Phineas as a hostage… but Frank released him anyway! "That imbecile!" Chris swore under his breath as he quickly slid under the table, waiting for a chance to flee. On the other hand, Phineas was actually impressed by Frank's stride—even he himself dulled in comparison in his younger days. However, there was no chance for reconciliation. He would have Frank killed either way! "You have balls, son, but you're dead meat now," he growled. "Get him!" At his order, Phineas' goons charged toward Frank like a raging tide.
