I lean against the fridge, watching him crack eggs into a pan with one hand.
"So," I say.
He groans. "Shut up, please."
"The team," I press on. "Max is obviously Scottish. Dominique is... Puerto Rican? Saint and Butcher both seem American. How did you find them? Is there a LinkedIn for mercenaries?"
"We found each other," Kirill says, tossing the shells into the trash. "Broken things have a way of gravitating to the same pile."
"That’s poetic. Dark, but poetic." I watch his profile. The sharp nose, the heavy brow, the beard that hides his expression. "And you’re the King of the broken things?"
