Chapter 35: The First Colony of Friction Year Four: The Diaspora of the Dissonant The fourth year of the Paradox was defined by a single, terrifying, and exhilarating word: Expansion. She turned, and to her surprise, it opened softly. Inside it, was another key, large and gold. “Take it,” he said. “It belongs to you.” Caitlin reached in and took the key, her mind racing. It was heavy, smooth. She could feel an incredible power coming off of it. “It is one of the four keys,” the man said. “Only you can find the other three. When you have all four, you will meet your father. And he will give you the Shield. “You are on a very sacred mission,” he added. “You must find him. For all of us.”

I cannot live without them. Alpha Hunter stirs beside me, and I turn to face him. I trace the outlines of his face with my finger. His defined jaw and sharp cheekbones. I still find it hard to believe that I have this handsome, loyal, and caring man by my side. I have four of them—okay, minus Killian because I don’t see him filling out any of those qualities, but he’s cool in his own way. I snort. What am I saying? The man is barely managing to tolerate me.

I do not blame him actually, we were never really close in the first place, we had just talked for a while. After some minutes, the other core warriors joined us and we entered the meeting hall together. The Four Alphas were already waiting for us on their seats. "Four Lords, we've captured Evelyn and the spy according to your command." The General got down on one knee to report. The four brothers got down from their seats and walked towards us. The one with the name 'Lincoln' Moved closer to me. "Who sent you?" He asked emotionlessly but I kept mute and stated right at him.

And together, they stepped into the glow, the door sealing shut behind them. The hum grew louder. The reflection smiled. And somewhere deep within the darkness, Adrian Salvador whispered, “Phase IV begins.”

I could tell he was trying everyday, he could tell when I was feeling off and he tried to distract me and it worked, sometimes. "What's wrong?" Fours voice interrupted my train of thought as he now stood in front of me, his hot breath bouncing of my face as I leaned against the machine, I was conformable but wanted things to remain slow. I mean, its hard when for months I was convinced Four was a serial killer that kidnapped me and his end goal was to torture and kill me.

"We are one, just like that. And I can sense your desire right now. Don't you want to meet that young man? I can grant your wish if you ask me to." "Yes! Please… I badly want to meet him." A low rumble vibrated in his chest, the primitive sound sending goose bumps racing across my skin. In a daze, I watched Four’s body lower to mine, my legs sliding apart to accommodate the width of his hips. My muscles strained with the urge to lift toward him, to hasten the contact between us that I had been craving since I first laid eyes on him. Lowering his head, he took my mouth again, bruising my lips with a fine edge of violence.

All four of them. I turned slowly, meeting their gazes one by one. Ethan. Marcus. Callum. Davian. Four Alphas. Four mistakes. Four pieces of something I had lost… and maybe never truly understood. And yet.. The bond, broken as it was, still lingered. A ghost under my skin. Marcus was the first to move. He stepped closer to the barrier separating us, his presence heavy, grounding, overwhelming in a way that used to make me feel safe. Now… it just made my chest ache.
