But the feral agent’s ears become deaf to her comrade’s warning as the salamander glows crimson red, burning Roxy upon her next attack. “Ow,” Roxy reeled back in Rain as Scott ran by her side. “Rowan Cloud, you okay?” With no response, the panther changed at her smoldering adversary only for Scott to pull her back.

Mell saw a tower of rainbow flames erupted in the distance, and he just knew something bad happened to Flare Fox. He had been enjoying himself fighting against the humongous Prime Chimera Varanus, but if something triggered Flare Fox to such extent, nothing good could come out of it. Varanus, who was by then had turned so large his shoulders brushed the top of most buildings, rampaged across the streets and swatting away every manmade structures he came across. Mell kept landing his blows with Balor but nothing seemed to get through Varanus' thick skin.

I roared and leapt at Roxy, who screamed and tried to dodge, but I was faster. She tried to scream something—some fake plea—but I didn’t hear it. All I saw was her face as she dragged Lyra through the forest. As she dared to dream she could replace my mate. My claws slashed across her arm, and she shrieked, backing away. “You think I won’t kill you?” I snarled. “You tortured her. Chained her. You’re dead, Roxy.” Her eyes widened as I tackled her to the ground. She fought—tried to shift, tried to scream—but I pinned her, claws pressed to her throat.

Roar! The demonic shadow let out an earth-shattering roar in boundless pain. A normal person would’ve been long dead after receiving such a severe injury.
