Shattered Masks
I moved quickly, brushing past Seth's scorching stare, and wrapped Ruby in my arms, shielding her from the prying lenses with my back, a fortress of protection.
I patted her back, my voice heavy but clear, loud enough for the cops and reporters close by to catch every word:
"Don't be scared, I'm here now. Everything's going to be okay. The police are here... Whoever did this to you, they're going to pay."
Those words were both a balm and a command, cementing Ruby's resolve.
She wept harder, her sobs a heart-wrenching symphony of grief.
"Zayden! You bastard! It was you! You're the one who framed me!"
