His jaw worked, opening and closing like he wanted to say something but didn’t know who he was more afraid of.
He looked like he was two seconds away from folding.
And that was all I needed.
I stepped closer and crouched in front of him, close enough that he had to tilt his head down to avoid my eyes.
"You," I said quietly. "What’s your name?"
He swallowed hard and glanced at his feet. "D-Danny."
"Danny." I leaned in just a little. "Look at me."
His gaze lifted slowly.
"You don’t want to die for a ghost, do you?" I asked. "For secrets that aren’t even yours? For a man who won’t even remember your name when this is over?"
