Ariel and Polly cut open the frog and then its stomach.

I inquired, scanning the surroundings with a critical eye. My gaze landed on a pool at the far end of the building. It was an eyesore, overgrown with weeds and teeming with dirt. I almost turned away, repelled by the neglect, until I spotted a figure within the pool. A closer look revealed it to be a mermaid. “What’s her name?” I gestured towards the murky pool. A scoff rippled through the mermaids below, hidden beneath feigned annoyance. Yet, the green-tailed mermaid, who tried to seduce me earlier, dared to scoff without restraint. I seized her throat, my grip unyielding.

"I'm Dr. Emma Rockford and it's a pleasure to meet you. Are you a mermaid or ocean nymph? The female batted her large eyes and sighed. "I'm part of a tribe of merpeople and closely related to ocean nymphs but can occupy freshwater sources as well as salt, I am called Layla," she said softly and I nodded. I glanced over at the other cell and felt the heat. A large dark muscular beast was pacing the perimeter of the enclosure. It's two bulky heads huffing angrily.

Mermaids are semi-aquatic, which means they spend part of their lives on land and part in the water. They mostly rely on marine ecosystems for their survival as a species but may venture to land every so often.
