I stared at Miya’s photo. “You didn’t just appear out of nowhere.” I opened my private notebook. The page was blank. For a long moment, I just looked at it. Then I wrote: I will protect Freya. I will protect our peace. Even if it means uncovering every lie… Even if the truth hurts. I closed the notebook slowly. A faint sound came from behind me. Fabric shifting. I turned. Freya stood in the doorway, half-asleep, hair slightly messy, eyes soft.

"Perhaps that was me, and maybe it wasn't," Freya said, pretending not to understand what Jeri was saying. "What do you mean?" Jeri expressed her discomfort. “Yes, Jeri.
