He tugged at my arm. My eyes adjusted as much as they could. My vision wiggled and my body swayed, but I couldn't tear my eyes away. I was frozen. It was hard to tell if it was from terror or curiosity. My fingers grasp Mila's arms as I watched the darkness come. I knew it was over. Deep down I knew it had me. The inky blackness rolled over Mila, enveloping her other side. She started to move away from me. My heart jumped. At first I thought she was still alive, but quickly realized it was the darkness. It was taking her.

She closed one eye and exhaled slowly trying to clear her head. "You are in my home," a male voice spoke out from the far end of the room. She opened her eyes again, and this time in the dim light coming through the window, she saw Night Frost. She sat up fast, causing her head to spin out of control. "Why am I here?” She remembered his fist coming at her and then dancing lights. “And where is my friend?"

My lungs burned as I tried to take a deep breath, and panic shot through me. A memory clawed at the edge of my mind: the palace, my room, Kael… and the shadow. A figure cloaked in darkness. Before I could scream, a pulse of freezing power struck my chest, numbing my body, as if I had been trapped in ice. I tried to resist, but my body wouldn't obey. Only my mind remained awake, painfully awake.

I breathed out, held my blisters out, and she poured the liquid gold straight into my palms. It didn't burn my skin. It sank into my pores. Instantly, my inner vision went white. Fenrir and Daekan both slammed into the center of my chest at the same time, their shapes twisting around each other like two snakes in a basket. The pressure was insane… it felt like someone was using a hydraulic press on my heart, squeezing everything until my ribs groaned under the strain. "They're crushing me," I gasped, my vision going completely dark. "Mom... they're crushing my heart."
