They sat with this. The coffee was finished. The morning light was growing—January light, still low, still cold, but growing. The eighth year had begun. The dark was behind them, not in the sense that there would be no more dark—there would be plenty of dark in January and February—but in the sense that they knew what the dark was for. The dark was for the coming back. The dark was for the light's return.

HOURS LATER As Damon stepped into his city apartment, a heavy silence greeted him, amplified by the absence of any illumination. The darkness enveloped him like a heavy cloak, its weight pressing down on his shoulders as he traversed the familiar space. He made no move to flick on a light switch, preferring instead to let the shadows consume him, mirroring the desolation that gnawed at his insides. So when Mane activated The Dark Times, Absolute Darkness which had a time limit of just 2.5 seconds experienced an increase of a single second, moving its skill time limit of 2.5 seconds to 3.5 seconds. It seemed minute, but it was this one second that caught Camila and Nasir off guard and led to Nasir’

It was the most piercing darkness ever- it was not merely the darkness that came out of absence of light, it was much more sinister. "Darkness, William, literal darkness. When Dinah told us about the darkness that will be upon us, she was talking about a total blackout. No sunlight." I said, sounding frantic, and he looked at me, confused.

I spoke up, earning multiple curses from my friends and family. "They're known as Darklings, vampires who do not possess a concrete bloodline from the Original Royal Family. Most of them are turned humans who have been corrupted by blood lust and a lack of the seal that imprints itself on every Vampire turned by one who is of true lineage blood. It seems the Dark Mages have altered them even more, corrupted their minds and enhanced their abilities to make them more dangerous than they usually are....Those foolish children. They shall pay for their error and for trying to alter goddess Hekate's laws."

Always be incredibly careful in the pitch dark because nobody really fully understands what comes back to haunt you there. There is really nothing more absolutely absurd in this known universe than having to search for your own rationality long when you have already destroyed it.

Chris first noticed the demon’s eyes which are very dark, much like the fog that previously surrounds him.
