The Mate Agreement
I stab at the slice of chocolate cake with my fork and it clinks loudly on the plate below it.
“Easy on the china, Bells.” Akio says, glancing over at me, then down at the croissants I’ve been guarding like a dragon, then back at me again. “If I didn’t know better I’d say you’re in a sour mood.” His long fingers move towards his bright red cowboy hat placed on the table, but I’m used to Akio’s antics, and I know his goal is the croissants. The hat is just a diversion.
