After a minute, she leaned back in her chair, twirling her mug between her hands.
“So… about Kai,” she started, voice light, like she was testing the waters.
I looked up, curious despite myself.
She smiled. A real one, small but warm. “You asked how we met.”
I nodded, taking a sip of tea.
“It was actually kind of ridiculous,” she said, laughing under her breath. “I was at that little coffee shop on Third, the one with the terrible Wi-Fi, and I spilled my entire iced latte all over his shoes. Like, full-on disaster. I thought he was going to be pissed, but he just looked down, laughed, and said, ‘Well, now you owe me a new pair… or at least your number.’”
