He started telling stories from school, spilled all kinds of work gossip. I laughed so hard I nearly doubled over. Didn't even get sleepy the whole ride. We still rolled in half a day late. But Jack took the fall, said he gave me the wrong directions, told them he'd cover any losses. Luckily, the company liked him. Delay wasn't major, so they let it slide. After that, we ended up on a few more runs together. One time, a coworker saw him tagging along again and joked, "Jack, I don't think the boss put you on this route. Volunteered for the girl, huh?"

But here, in this small, slow-moving town, everything was personal. Colton made it worse. He talked easily, made me laugh without trying, and somehow managed to make the heat of the day a little less unbearable. We talked about stupid things—his favorite type of beer (cheap and cold), my favorite type of wine (expensive and red), and the worst jobs we’d ever had. He told me about working at a feed store when he was younger because he lost a bet, and how he once had to chase a goat around the property for over an hour. It was obvious that he had to be strict because trusting everyone when you have a business of gold and diamonds was really dumb. He owned a little gold shop from the savings of his entire life. He had a wife and a son. He sent his son John to another city for his higher studies. Mr. Paul could barely see because of his vision loss but this didn’t stop him from working hard for the sake of his family. He believed in the fact that hard work is the key to success which Keith Jonas didn't really agree to but obviously always had to pretend to.

I start with a small giggle on my face. “I spent my day work all day, mmm at my family company” I laugh. “W-what! That was so boring” Z laughs. “Huh, and I got drunk in the middle of the night, in my bedroom floor, and woke up on couch all the time” I end. Both of us laughing because of the story, our faces are getting red because of the laugh. “Oh, my goodness! That’s insane!” Z tried to stop her laughs and leave a little giggle on her face. “Yeah, my life was insane!” I laugh softly.

I wanted to see his eyes again and maybe tell what he was thinking at that moment. “ I do. Work is like an escape from the real world, Madelyn. My father used to work all the time. 24/7 round a clock, he never stopped. And so, I think I got infected with the habit of working.” “ Don't you do anything fun?” “ Work is fun, Madelyn. I'm having fun whenever I sit before the computers or whenever my ink scribbles words across paper. This, is my own definition of fun.” Unbelievable!

I casually said. He took a quick look outside before shrugging his shoulder. "So, how's work?" He changes the topic. "Never changed, same as before. Overworked and underpaid." I said followed with a laugh. He also laughed at what I said. "That's what well-known companies do to their workers. Don't be too shocked." He stood up when the laundry machine stopped moving. He then grabbed one by one his laundry. "I'll be heading now. Goodluck and take care of yourself, okay?" He said.

I didn't want anyone to be uncomfortable listening to that kind of talk anymore. I understand that not everyone feels comfortable listening to stories about other people, especially since this is a workplace and not a place for people to tell stories. The group of people who were chuckling nodded their heads. "Yes, yes, we understand. Enjoy your time." They spoke as they left.

But it seemed like someone had recognized him. In the afternoon he gave his statement to the press that his wife works in that coffee shop. It was her hobby. Her boss needed a hand so he just helped them out for a day. He further said that it was refreshing and he realized how much effort an employee makes, so this miniature work of a few hours had taught him the great importance of hard work. His statement was almost on every news channel and everyone was in awe of him.

It's as though we were in our own little bubble, unaware of the world around us. At times, Alex points out something funny that happened to him at work, and I find myself doubling over with laughter. I tried to imagine him in that position but I couldn't, but as he continued, I found myself vividly seeing if. He has a way of telling stories that always gets me in stitches. And I can't help but reciprocate by sharing some of my own comical mishaps. "Oh my God, that's hilarious. Some people are just so sick." I laughed out loud.

It gets stressful sometimes but it pays well.” At this point I got pro in lying about my job. It’s online. It pays well. I have just to do data entries and some small stuff was my fabricated story. “Sure it does,” he commented. We ate while telling jokes to each other. Like we used to do. I decided not to damage my brain cells to think useless stuff like he was there for some purpose. Maybe he thinks I have no one beside him, well that was true at some point at least in university.
