I love when they say that. Everyone is going around the room saying the same boring crap about how much they've enjoyed working in blah blah company working on the same whatever project for x number of years. And their personal comment is usually something like "I enjoy reading technical journals." So when they get to me, I usually do something like this: "My name is Jake. I worked for Vandalay Industries for 5 years as a latex salesman, followed by brief forays into architecture and marine biology before becoming a programmer." About 90% of the time no one is paying attention as I am saying this stuff, but that 10% of the time, it's just magic and someone will just laugh out loud.

He was telling me some funny story about one of his co workers that I wasn’t really listening to. I was still caught up with the meeting with the big boss this afternoon that Leo had described as ‘hot’ and ‘steamy’. I rolled my eyes at that telling him that it was more like ‘embarrassing’ and ‘problematic’. I knew the nature of the business world, those who worship the rich and famous... those who are the rich and famous.

He asked, signaling the bartender. We found a small table near the bar, and soon enough, we were deep in conversation, the minutes flying by effortlessly. Liam had this way of making me feel at ease, like I could let my guard down without worrying about judgment. He told me funny stories about his early days at the company, including an embarrassing incident with a photocopier that left me clutching my stomach with laughter. “You’re kidding,” I said between laughs, wiping a tear from the corner of my eye. “I wish I were,” he said, grinning. “But no, I really did trip over the cord and send about a hundred copies of my butt flying through the office. Needless to say, I double-check all cords

Emily could only stifle her laugh as some people shared hilarious stories of how they got into the company. “I got mine at the grocery store.” someone announced. ‘What!!” another exclaimed. “Yeah, I was in line waiting to pay this obnoxious cashier. I got the email, dumped my groceries and ran out. I'm pretty sure I looked a hell lot of crazy.” The table erupted in cackles at his dramatic gestures. “What about you, Emily ? What were you doing when you got in?” Emily froze as all attention turned to her. “Ummh, I was….I was home.” the words stumbled out of her mouth.

He started telling stories from school, spilled all kinds of work gossip. I laughed so hard I nearly doubled over. Didn't even get sleepy the whole ride. We still rolled in half a day late. But Jack took the fall, said he gave me the wrong directions, told them he'd cover any losses. Luckily, the company liked him. Delay wasn't major, so they let it slide. After that, we ended up on a few more runs together. One time, a coworker saw him tagging along again and joked, "Jack, I don't think the boss put you on this route. Volunteered for the girl, huh?"

And I ordered the seafood risotto. Along with a fruit drink. Because apparently coffee and I were no longer friends. Another tragedy. The waiter collected our orders and left. For a while, the conversation remained light. We talked about work. About mutual colleagues. About office gossip that I had missed. Apparently someone in accounting had accidentally sent a complaint email to the person they were complaining about. Twice. I laughed so hard my stomach hurt. "I can't believe he did that." "He did." Leona grinned. "The second email was an apology."

“You can continue to sleep. Here’s a blanket for you so that you don’t catch a cold.” That was close. I nearly destroyed our pure transactional relationship because of lust. Shaun shot me a strange look, but he said nothing. He just went off to eat his breakfast. But he did not even fix the belt of his robe. He was still flaunting his assets all over the place. I kept my eyes down, but he tapped on the table. “Tell me a joke.” Did all employers have such strange hobbies? “I’ll pay you one hundred thousand per joke.” All I needed to do was treat my employer’s hobby as my goal and just do it.

Tracy's POV "Omg, this post is so funny", my secretary laughed, her laughter feeling the entire room despite being separated from me by a wall. "I know, right I have been laughing my ass off all morning," one of the other workers joined her. Their back-and-forth over some posts has been happening for a few hours now. "Take a look at this one too." _I can't take it any longer._ "Don't you have work to do," I thundered, sounding like a joy kill.

We sat down at a small table by the window, and as we sipped our coffee, Derek started telling a hilarious story about a mishap that had occurred in the office the day before. "So, I was trying to fix the copier," he said, his eyes shining with amusement, "and I ended up getting my tie caught in the machine. I mean, it was stuck, and I was trying to pull it out, but it just kept getting tighter and tighter..." I giggled, feeling a sense of joy and lightheartedness that I hadn't experienced in a long time. "Oh no, what did you do?" I asked, my eyes wide with curiosity.

And I was so caught of guard with the fact that I laughed, these days the only person who brought that out was either Maya or Stellan. Ethan was funny. Genuinely, effortlessly funny. He told stories about interning at tech startups, about the disastrous dates he’d been on, about the time he accidentally deleted a database at Vaughn Enterprises and had to rebuild it in twenty-four hours before Stellan noticed. "Wait," I giggled, wiping tomato sauce from the corner of my mouth. "You hid a server crash from the Dragon?" "I hid it from the IT Director," Ethan corrected, grinning. "If Stellan had known, I would be buried under the foundation of the new Jersey hub."
