I fell to my knees, my head in my hands, and wept. The struggle was overwhelming. It looked to me as if I was battling against something far greater than I am, more like a duel between; a pawn and a queen.

Wouldn't sacrifice love for strategic benefit. We'd fight with our weakness. Fight through our limitation. Fight despite vulnerability. Because love wasn't weakness. It was different kind of strength. One that entity couldn't understand. Couldn't predict. Couldn't counter. The entity began retreating. Not defeated. Strategic withdrawal. Mission incomplete but intelligence gathered. Weaknesses identified. Future strategies planned.

It was what came after. The daily work of building justice. The struggle to maintain hope. The choice to keep trying even when failure seemed certain. That was the story worth telling. And it was far from over.​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​

Joel screamed repeatedly, "Abigail, you can't do this to me! None of this is real! The whole transmigration thing is bullshit, and so is this palace! Let me go! I don't want to stay here!" His agonizing curses and cries echoed through the prison, gradually muffled by the thick castle doors.

But it felt like we were doing all these for nothing and I couldn't bear with it anymore. "Shit," he mumbled, putting a hand on his forehead and rubbing his fingers on his temple. "I tried to bargain with her, but she won't let me have it." I tried to make my voice sound eased, but the strain that covered it made my frustration apparent. I couldn't be losing hope. We would still be fighting this inevitable battle, no matter what it took, or if it meant getting myself killed. "What are we supposed to do now? Runaway?" He seemed losing his mind at this point, as crinkles started to form on his forehead.

I seethed “Girl, seriously, what is with you? Yes as engaged to be married. We might not be at war now, but there is still tension. Fire and Air affinities fought on the same side, they wanted power, even if that meant giving up your soul. Water and earth fought beside each other with the understanding that Mother Nature gives us exactly what we can handle nothing more and nothing less. And if you don’t stop shooting daggers at Anna you’re going to have even a bigger target on your back.” I tore my eyes away from the table. “I think I need to get out of here.”

“So let me get this right. You’re useless now.” Stratin physically cowed under the weight of the words. There was a mild hesitation before he nodded. Useless might have been a strong word but it was not very far from the truth. In simplicity, it was a good enough synonym. Hordriv sighed in mild defeat. “So we’re a man down then,” he finished.
