It reminded me that I was alive. This morning was no different. The chill of the mountain air bit into my skin as I stood in the middle of the training ring, staring down Kael. Kael was my trainer, a towering man with scars that crisscrossed his arms and chest like battle trophies. His dark green eyes were sharp, unyielding, and always watching. He didn’t speak much, but when he did, his words carried the weight of authority. “You’re hesitating again,” Kael said, his voice rough like gravel. He was circling me now, his hands loose at his sides, his stance deceptively casual.
