POV EMMA BELLE The main entrance to Sun-Spire was the Apollo Gate, a massive archway carved from solid white stone and reinforced with enchanted iron. Normally, the gates stood open to welcome trade, but today, they were slammed shut. Two full legions of Council Peacekeepers stood atop the battlements, their silver crossbows aimed squarely at our front line.

I squinted and gave the bomb expert a half-smile. "There’s no need to waste time with words.” "Just do your thing, and quick." He nodded and got down to business with his tools. It turned into a beam of pure, prismatic light that shot through the "Aura Gate" and into the sky.

Behind me, Rome stayed near the entrance, watching quietly. “Do you like this one?” he suddenly asked. I turned slightly. He was pointing toward a specific book resting on one of the nearby shelves. I stepped closer and pulled it out carefully. My eyes widened slightly when I read the title. It was a novel written by Sun the Morning. A love story about the moon and the sun. A quiet memory surfaced inside my mind. I had read this before in my past life. The story had stayed with me for years because of how bittersweet and beautiful it had been.

A compartment opened. Inside was a thin black book. Gabriel took it carefully. The cover carried no writing. He opened it. The first page contained a warning. WHEN THE SEVENTH GATE OPENS, THE KEY WILL CEASE TO BE A KEY. Aria stepped closer. Gabriel continued reading. THE CARRIER SHALL BECOME THE DOOR. Another page. THE DOOR SHALL STAND BETWEEN TWO WORLDS. Another. IF THE DOOR OPENS, ONE WORLD SHALL REMAIN.

“Am so sorry, I still have a bit of a problem controlling my powers.” Oh, really, it wasn’t obvious. “It's fine.” I swallow dryly and pick up the book that had fallen to the floor. Tilting my head curiously, I study it. It’s bound with a thick kind of leather strap and though the pages are worn out and they smell a little stale, the ink is still very visible. I turn the book over in my hands and read the Latin words on the peeling hardcover. “The Genetics of Elemental’s.” The book is snatched from my hand before I could even ask what it is about and I glance up in surprise to see how pale she’s gotten. “You read Lat-Latin?”
