The university library’s restricted upper floor was nearly deserted by 9 PM. Only the faint hum of fluorescent lights and the occasional creak of old wooden shelves broke the silence. Mia had claimed a corner table in the rare books section, surrounded by towering stacks that smelled of dust, leather, and aged paper.
