The possessive way he fucked me like he both hated and needed me. I forced a grin. “You’re crazy, man. You watch too many movies.” He stepped aside but whispered as I passed, “Run while you still can. He’ll ruin you.” Later that day, I overheard two employees gossiping near the cafeteria. “Did you hear about The Ghost? Some billionaire who shows up masked at underground parties. Pays good money, fucks like a demon, then vanishes. Nobody ever sees his face.” I laughed it off again. But deep inside of me, i was worried for myself.

I close my eyes and fall into a variation of my usual nightmare. It’s quiet, too quiet. The only sounds are the soft patters of mouse paws skirting across wooden floorboards. I’m in the old slave holding cell from my childhood but I am, as I am now, an adult. I’m in my assassin outfit. There are slaves all around me, but they are frozen in time. Their mouths are agape as if they are afraid and their eyes are empty as if they’ve lost the will to live. Their forms are distorted into odd postures, some with their legs bent over their heads or an arm bent backwards against the joint and up. They don’t have hair or distinguishable faces, and they all wear the same rags I remember from my childhoo

Kael's pov I close my eyes as Ghost pushes against my skull hard enough to split the bone. The pressure rolls through me in waves, each one darker than the last. Images slam into my mind one after another. Torn limbs……Crushed bodies…….Blood sprayed across the floor. Ghost shows me all of it, a promise of what he plans to do. “I will bathe in that wolf’s blood whether you like it or not”, he snarls. My teeth grind. “Then you’ll condemn us both to death.”

She interrupted as she wiggled her hips again, tossing her hair over her shoulder in what she clearly thought was a seductive move. The problem here is that, because she is a ghost, half her body kept flickering in and out of visibility. One second she is grinding on me, the next second, she vanished completely, and then bam, she is back, a little off-center, her knee phasing through my fucking thigh and it's really scary.

My body was already a frozen shell, the cold seeping into my very bones. Hearing about Hallie's injuries had sent me rushing to her, with the warm pie I knew she loved. Never in my wildest nightmares could I have imagined walking into that scene, my own boyfriend, Camilo White, the beta I loved, painting me as the villain in public. He stood amidst the pack members, his every gesture exaggerated. It was a carefully cooked up lie. "Violet disappeared that night. Who knows how many rogues defiled her? She's impure. How could I ever consider marking her? Out of respect for her father, a beta himself, I might reluctantly allow her to be my mistress, a mere servant to Hallie."

But when he stepped inside, the sight before him nearly made him freeze. Ghost sat in a plush leather chair, his movements slow, deliberate. He swirled a glass of deep red wine in his hand, the candlelight reflecting off the crystal. His expression was unreadable, a calm storm behind those cold, calculating eyes. He took a measured sip before looking up at Specter, who was still catching his breath. "Did you hear about the current news?" Specter asked, his voice edged with restrained urgency. Ghost tilted his head slightly, setting his glass down with an almost lazy motion. "Yes," he said simply, his tone void of any emotion.

He shrugged indifferently. I shook my head at Knight, unsure of his angle. “You’re looking for a good time though, and all Pamela is capable of providing is pain. Isn’t that right?” My eyes skewered hers, and from the twitch at the left corner of her lip, she was remembering our time together just as vividly. Her eyes flashed as they landed on Knight. “Oh, I don’t know. I haven’t heard any complaints.” Ghost cocked his head. He freshly buzzed his hair for tonight and it gave him a harsh, military look. “Can’t complain if they’re dead. I’m assuming you can’t speak to the dead, correct?”

"They aren't frozen soldiers. They’re data-ghosts with physical weight." One of the ghosts stepped out of the light. It moved with a terrifying, unnatural speed, its hand extending into a jagged blade of hard-light. It didn't scream. It just hissed—the sound of a thousand deleted files. Kaelor didn't hesitate. He dived under the ghost’s strike, his knife finding the creature’s throat. There was no blood. Just a spray of blue sparks and the smell of burning plastic. The ghost didn't die; it just flickered, its wound knitting back together instantly.

Ghost explained. I closed my eyes and stopped pretending, letting out a sigh of pain and tiredness. It took a few minutes for us to arrive because Ghost was moving slowly, precisely so as not to hurt me anymore. I know the exact moment I enter the Imperial bedroom and open my eyes, Ghost lets go of my waist and I stagger, but I make it to the bed and lie down. “Who we are does not matter, what matters is that the Wolves will die tonight!” Zephyr huffed, produced out his sword, and quickly sprinted towards him. “Ha! Do you not know where you are? I am Ghost! You will not be spared tonight!” he replied. Seeing Zephyr rush over, Ghost steadied himself. “Wolf’s Howl!” Ghost howled, with that the attack started. Even though he looked barbaric and unruly, he was very careful. Seeing how many of his men had been slaughtered, even if he did not know who Zephyr was, he knew he was formidable.
