Our mansion is unique. It’s vast and constantly expanding. It’s also odd with staircases that lead to nowhere, windows that never see light, strange paintings, and doors that open to nothing. Shadows swirl around the walls. The mansion is designed this way to confuse spirits that may make their way to the coven’s realm. It doesn’t happen often, but a few have snuck through before. We have reapers to handle those spirits.

When I turned back around, I noticed a new note pinned to the table. It was the same familiar handwriting, but the strokes seemed to carry a hint of chill this time. "Squanderer." I froze, then started laughing out loud. So this ghost couldn't just cook—she was also a thrifty, budget-conscious woman. I liked that. I immediately grabbed a pen and wrote back, "Sorry, Ivy. I was just joking. From now on, let's stick to regular dishes. I won't bring up such ridiculous things anymore." I made sure to apologize sincerely.

" Two guards in black immediately moved in, ignoring Nellie's struggle as they dragged her toward the exit. Around them, guests lifted their phones, snapping pictures and laughing under their breath. Voices overlapped, mocking how pathetic the Scott siblings were, laughing that people like them might as well be dead. What they didn't know was that I was already dead. “You know, for a man who claims to hate the ‘Old Guard’ ways, you still hold your scotch glass like you’re waiting for someone to try and poison it.” The voice was light, almost conversational, cutting through the low hum of jazz and the clinking of crystal in the exclusive sanctuary of the Blackwood Business Club. I didn’t turn around. I didn’t need to. The scent of sandalwood and cold mountain air was enough to tell me that the ghost had finally stepped into the light.

Jay greeted grumpily as he walked to sit at the table. “Who missed me!!!” Everyone turned immediately they heard a loud voice from behind Rose. “Sorry I startled you all, my bad” Crystal giggled happily like something was going to happen that day. “And the queen herself came down only to scare us like a ghost” Rose teased as she began to dish out the food into their different plates. “Come on mom, it was a prank” Crystal announced before she sat down on her seat. “Yeah I see, a prank that could take us to our early graves I guess” Her mom returned.
