Chapter 2 Flashback / dream A girl is strolling through a library and after a lot of searching she got the book of her interest. She took a seat and started to read it. Suddenly a boy came and knocked her book "knock knock, may I talk with this busiest girl for a minute?" The girl removed her book from her face and asked "What do you want now?" The boy answered " I happened to know a girl named Mugdha and want her as my girlfriend. "

I asked, seeing a little frown on her face. "I'm unable to find a book. Maybe a student took it without getting it issued. These students are just very careless." She said looking at the computer screen. "Oh. What book?" I asked, out of curiosity. "Umm it's 'The girl he used to know' by-" she read from the computer screen but I completed her sentence. "By Tracey Garvis Graves?" I said it more like a question. "Yes! That's the book." She said, jolting up in amusement.

River "Miss Stephenson, wake up!" Our math teacher, Ms. Davis, shouts at the girl sitting next to me. I give her a gentle shake to wake her up, but as always, I get yelled at for it. I've always been the odd one out, the outsider. I'm the water girl for the football team because I can't play any sports. My two left feet always hold me back. One of the popular girls on the team, Marie, insults me, calling me the "nasty girl" and saying she'll have to scrub her arm until it bleeds to get my "nastiness" off.

My new shoes got splashed by the girl's juice and again, Sandra and I also had to be a spectacle because of what she did. “Tam, your shoes….” "That's how it is." My eyes then fell on the bespectacled girl who was still sitting on the floor. She with a sad look makes me a little sorry. Her clothes were all dirty from the spilled food and juice. Ah, at least she's even with me. “Tam, I'm sorry for what happened to your shoes. Honestly, she's really clumsy,” sneered Alexi who had just finished enjoying her lunch. She who sat not far from the scene was really relaxed looking at us. Likewise the other students, who just laughed and gossiped about the girl below me.

A young maiden carried seven, very thick binds of books that seemed to be really heavy. Thus, she plopped them down over a nearby desk along with a sigh of exhaustion. The other girls were the same, yet their books were either as light as pocket stories or random history books that they found out of haste. When it came to Crystal’s turn, the maid’s eyes inspected the binds of books which was carried by Crystal in an elegant manner. A small smile was evident but not too obvious before her eyes gazed over at the other females. ‘I was right.’ Crystal thought to herself with glee.

She carried her tray and immediately approached the table beside the glass window. This girl looks athletic and nerdy at the same time, I thought. I watched her open her black Jansport bag, and from it pulled out a book. She started reading the book positioning it inches away from her face. I noticed the cover of the book shows a little girl wearing black skirt, long white socks and black school shoes. The little girl is standing with, I think it’s an adult man’s shoes beside her and some clothes. From what I see the title of the book she is reading is called, The Time Traveler’s Wife.

155 Shania adjusted the stack of books in her arms as she stepped into the cozy library at the foundation’s headquarters. This had quickly become her favorite spot to retreat to, a quiet space where stories lived and dreams flourished. A part of her still marveled at how far things had come. The library was bustling with activity as kids and young adults flipped through pages of novels and textbooks. Shania watched a young girl named Tasha animatedly discuss a book with her peers, her shy demeanor replaced by an infectious enthusiasm.

I glance at the cover of the book she slid across the counter: a Catherine Bybee novel. “Oh, wow, Mathilda. You’re a fan of Catherine Bybee?” I smile, genuinely impressed as I open the ledger. “It’s refreshing to see a teenager with such classic taste. Most girls your age are glued to their phones, but here you are, diving into a good romance.”

We walk in and a girl is sitting in the middle, her back is facing us. “That is Adore; she spends most of her time reading. She was raped by her stepfather when she was fourteen. She thinks books make her feel alive again! I think she has read most of the books that are here. Once she reads, it's hard to get her attention.” Tay informs, and I walk to the girl.
