I collapsed onto the floor of the infirmary, my breath hitching in my throat. As a fever raged and burned through me, I mustered the last of my strength to crawl toward the glass cabinet, desperate for any medication that could keep me alive through the night. The jagged gash on my palm, caked with mud, began to thrum with a numbing, rhythmic ache. The wretched, stagnant water from the depths of the lake felt as though it were seeping into my very veins.
