My body was frozen, my very soul, it seemed, was frozen. A glow of blue light was flickering behind him, very gentle at first, then becoming more intense till I needed to cover my face to protect my eyes. The radiance was almost blinding, almost divine, but the emotion it produced was not sacred. It was bad, heavy, and dark, crawling like smoke on my skin. Then there came some figure from the glow. A woman, with her long tresses streaming like molten fire, and lips as smirking as steel-cutting.

A ring that was glowing in dark red appeared in front of him. At the same time, a gray figure appeared behind Fane. That figure was filled with gray energy and looked like it was made of smoke. Upon closer inspection, one could tell that the figure looked similar to Fane. "I—Is that a world avatar?" gasped a warrior from a second-grade world, gaping at the sight.

The pendant around my neck began to glow intensely, its light piercing the darkness. Startled awake, I realized the melody wasn’t just in my dreams—it echoed throughout the hut. The old woman was gone, but in her place stood a grand, ornate mirror framed with symbols that resonated with the pendant. Drawn to it, I approached the mirror. Instead of my reflection, it showcased a vast, starlit expanse, and at its center was a celestial version of the gate we sought. But what truly took my breath away was the figure standing in front of it - another version of me, tears streaming down her face, the pendant glowing fiercely around her neck.

Before he could answer— Something moved inside the darkness. Tall. Long. Not human. A shape formed from the black. Then another. And another. Seraphina gasped. “Those are… figures.” They stepped forward from the dark slowly. Not walking. Gliding. Their bodies looked like people made from red light and shadow. No faces. No features. Just tall shapes with glowing centers where a heart would be. Elara felt her skin crawl. Chloe whispered again inside the chamber. “They’re coming.” The figures stopped at the edge of the doorway.

I lie. A bridge forms from the chasm's teeth, slick with saliva that glows faintly green. At its center stands a figure, humanoid but wrong, its limbs too long, its head a faceless orb etched with runes that pulse like a heartbeat. It doesn't speak. It *projects*, the words carving themselves into my mind. ***FEED US.*** Eden retches, black fluid bubbling from his lips. The figure tilts its head. ***YOU. YOU ARE THE OFFERING.***

Her eyes gleamed with frost-light. “Who are you?” she asked. The figure did not respond. Aria stepped forward. “We’re not enemies.” Still nothing. Then the figure raised its head. And Aria saw eyes not of flesh—but of stone. Cracked. Glowing faintly. Like molten rock held barely in check. Valeska whispered, “He’s not alive.” The figure opened its mouth. Dust fell from it like ash. Then—words, in a voice not its own.

She glanced to the side; Gladia followed Lia’s gaze with a frown. “What is it this time?” Gladia jeered. Light and airy footsteps echoed in the distance, as if whoever owned those feet were walking on air, and then golden light began to shine from Gladia’s chest. It was the pendant — the gold sparkling against Gladia’s white shirt. “What—what is this?!” Gladia’s hiss rose to a shriek, clawing at the pendant as though it had turned molten, burning her. Her fingers tore at the chain, but it refused to snap. The glow only intensified, crawling across her skin like fireflies turning into flames.

My eyes drifted higher—scanning the shadows between the trees. And then I saw it. A figure. Standing just beside a tree. Naked. Completely naked. My heart slammed once—hard. I couldn’t see the face. Just the shape of broad shoulders, long legs, moonlight sliding over muscle like water. But the eyes… Shiny green. Glowing. Not reflecting moonlight. Glowing. Like twin lanterns in the dark. I couldn’t move. Couldn’t breathe. The figure didn’t move either—just stood there, staring straight up at my window. At me.

The glow brightened suddenly, stretching into a shape, tall, human, fragile and blinding. And then it moved. Straight toward us.

Glowing around its edges with the same faint pulse as the walls. And in front of it, a figure. Still. Human-shaped. Watching us from across the chamber. I stopped walking. Behind me I felt them stop too, felt the shift in the bond as all three of them registered what I was seeing, weapons coming up, bodies going ready. The figure didn't move. Just stood in front of that glowing door in the torchlight and the whispers rose around us to something I couldn't keep separate from my own thoughts anymore, my mother and Liam and voices I didn't recognise all pressing in at once, all asking questions I had no answers for.
