I shouted, grabbing Kael’s hand.
We ran, Ilara at our heels, the blade’s light showing the way. The beasts followed, relentless, their howls filling the tunnels.
The passage opened into a cavern, wide and echoing. A pool of black water sat at its center, still as glass. And above it—a rift.
A tear in the world itself, jagged and raw, leaking shadow like smoke from a dying fire.
“This is it,” Ilara said, breathless.
The rift pulsed, and I felt its hunger. Its need.
