The Hockey Star Regret
he gestured to the rink, the schedule taped to the wall, the endless noise of the locker room “This eats up most of your time.”
I shrugged. “We’re not even official.”
“But you care.”
I looked down at my gloves. “Yeah.”
“Then don’t let hockey eat everything in your life,” he said.
And that stuck with me.
The rest of the day was a blur of backchecking drills, defensive zone coverage, and relentless shouts from Coach Simmons, who I was 90% sure used to be a drill sergeant before switching to hockey.
By the time I got back to the hotel, my calves were jelly and my brain was fried.
