She paused for a second, pulled her hair behind her ears so she could hear properly and when nothing came, she went back to finishing the business on her plate. Her three colleagues-turned-friends sitting with her on the table had stopped eating and were all looking at her with bemusement. When she finally cleared her plate, she heaved a sigh of relief, pulled the plate to the side and finally raised her head up. “I really hate skinny people,” the slightly plump Astridah remarked, shaking her head and looking at Natasha’s empty plate with indignation. “How can you eat so much and still stay that thin? It’s so unfair. Ine I put on weight just from smelling delicious food.”

On the tray was a plate piled with braised pork ribs, collard greens, mashed potatoes, a bowl of bean soup, and some grains. A young lady with heavy filters and carefully done makeup prodded at the pieces of braised pork, looking disgusted. "Look, everyone. This is what they call the dollar charity meal." The woman's voice was sweet and syrupy, but her tone was dripping with sarcasm. "One dollar for a meal sounds cheap, but look at the food. It's more fat than lean, and the greens are overcooked. My grandmother eats this every day. I offer to get takeout for her, but she insists this place is cheaper and doesn't want to spend the money.

I did not even get to the first item before Jack snatched it off me. “You cannot eat any of this crap, I will go and get you some lunch when I go get some for Ryan and myself”. “Um, I didn’t even get chance to look at it. I am sure that the food is fine, I am not fussy. I don’t need you wasting any more money on me. You are already paying for my care”. “Its not a waste if you are getting some meat on your bones, your too skinny”. His comment hurt, I knew that he liked his girls curvy and busty and usually blonde. I was the opposite. I was skinny with just a handful of boobs and my hair was jet black. “I am always this skinny” I mumbled.

I don’t actually need the contacts. I’m pretty short, often being called a midget, which is offensive to both me and midgets. I have a fit body from regular exercise and healthy eating. Yes, I am a bit of a health freak, but not the kind who bans themselves from enjoying the good stuff. I love food, just not an overdose of junk. Loving food doesn’t mean you have to eat junk food only.

Everything became super healthy. One day I could not help but laugh. Chris had made breakfast again. There was a green smoothie, quinoa pancakes and spinach and tomato. Jason gave out a sigh “Chris are you going through a midlife crises. Whats with all this healthy shit?” I just started laughing so much. Chris looked up at him clearly annoyed. “It’s necessary, we have strenuous schedules. We travel from one altitude to the other and we meet dozens of people. Besides with the amount that you drink and sleep around. You need it the most”

He'd lost touch with going to the gym during his University days and had survived on pizza and beer a little too much.
