It was the specific and particular terror of a woman who had found something good and did not know what to do with it, which was a different and in some ways more difficult terror, because the bad things had a protocol and the good things did not. The bad things: I knew what to do. I had always known what to do. You got small. You got careful. You noted the doors and calculated the exits and put the granola bar in your pocket and breathed the shallow and managed breath of a woman who was conserving herself against the specific and known requirements of a space that was not safe.
