Now or never. I grabbed the grate near the corner of the building and let my body swing down, hanging free. I inched along the cold metal by my fingers. I swung my body back and forth slightly at the corner and released one hand making the grab for the other building’s grate but missed and almost dropped. Hanging by one arm I took another breath and swung again, this time making contact and gripping as tightly as I could.

My body slams hard with a sickening crunch against something unyielding before the ladder’s weight falls on me. A slow hum floods my body as it rings, every cell perhaps shaken by the crash.

"The platforms have their own gravity fields. Just stay close to them and you'll be fine." I forced myself to relax. After a moment, I felt a gentle pull drawing me back down. My feet touched the platform again, though I still felt weightless, like I was standing on the moon. The others were having similar experiences. Brady flailed as he floated several feet above the platform before the gravity field caught him and pulled him back down. Walter kept his balance better, moving with careful, measured steps. The twins stood back to back, watching the void around us with matching expressions of wariness.
