The Awakening of Slave
If we didn’t go now, it would touch him.
“Come on,” I said, motioning for Thistle to start descending. Thistle looked down and paused. But only for a moment. With a shaky foot, he started moving down the steep side of the ravine.
The side of the ravine was loose stone. The stone slid under our feet. It was almost impossible to find our footing. Half way down, Thistle slipped. Thor caught him, hauling him up like he weighed nothing.
“I’ve got you,” Thor said. Thistle clung to him, pale, shaking. I came down behind them, each foot careful. If I slipped, I’d cascade to the bottom. I knew I wouldn’t survive that fall. My breathing turned sharp.
