It struck the ground a dozen feet in front of them. Where the beam hit, the scrubby grass, the tough little weeds, the hardy insects, everything simply… turned grey. Not dead. It was still standing, but all color, all vitality, was instantly leeched from it. It became a perfect, static sculpture of its former self, frozen in a moment of absolute apathy. A Reaper. He touches it slightly and seems to understand he's going to die of blood loss soon. “You Dishonorable beasts” he spits, raising his sword, “may the god of the green bless me” “What did he just say?” Celeste gasps. “May the earth accept me” “What is it, Celeste?” I ask. “May my foes be Tribute to the green” “He's no ordinary human!,” she mutters, “check his aura, what does it look like?” I immediately check and all I see is green. Bright beautiful green shining from him, digging into the earth and seeping into the trees.

The sound of his boots faded down the hall. I pressed my back against the wall and slid to the floor. My body was still shaking. Not from fear. Or not only from fear. When his teeth had grazed my mark, something inside me had ignited. A heat that started at my neck and poured down through my chest, my stomach, my thighs. My skin had tightened. My breath had caught. And for one terrible, honest second, I had wanted him closer. The Reaper. The man who’d killed his own family. The man who collected territories like other men collected debts.

Then I notice my backside has been charred and there’s this small matter of a flame on the small tip past my ball tail. A hyperactive skeleton races to put the tremulous fire out. It runs screaming and dragging what looks like giant innards but turns out to be a fire hose. I’m struck by a jet of foul swamp water like a street demonstrator or an unwashed prisoner of war. More laughter from Septimus and his Helter-Skeltals. The sound the reaper makes is that of grinding tectonic plates transformed into a voice.

I walked to it and found the white bricks. I threw it up in the air, weighing it for a bit before turning forward and throwing it. Garett who was at the entrance of the truck caught it, his knife already out as he dug it in, took out some of it, and sniffed. I held back my disgust, my eyes watching him momentarily flare up in pleasure before he sniffed and shrugged, “It’s quite good,” I nodded and walked back out. Mr Smith stood sheltered by his guards, his smile wide and pleasing. “I hope everything meets your expectations, Reaper?”

Like hoppy. The girl wheezed, tried to crawl away, but the bonds held tightly, and her back rested against a tree trunk. Only a few steps separated the victim from the undead. The stench emanating from the Walker became unbearable. The ugly face of a ghoul with traces of earth on rotting skin was distorted by greed. Blue lips stretched out, revealing strong teeth. Someone's husband or father will bite her to death. Someone who loved, suffered, lived, but died and... was reborn into this .

I didn't know what to say or do again to avoid another slap. "You have to go deliver the package now." He yelled and i scurried away. I'm dirty,hungry and I feel irritated.
