"Then we buy you time."
I turned to Kael, Ronan, and Zephyr.
"Protect the King. Keep the guards off him until every lock is broken."
Kael drew his blade, his obsidian eyes blazing. "We've got your back."
Ronan's claws extended, the steel gleaming. "Let them come."
Zephyr moved to the King's side, his silver eyes sharp, his hands glowing with a faint, blue light. "I will guard the rear."
The King pressed his hands to the first lock, his golden eyes closing in concentration. The runes flickered, resisting his touch. But slowly, painfully, they began to dim.
