FALLING IN LOVE WHEN YOU'RE TEXTING
Hannah released my hand but put one hand on my knee as we sat, and though they kept talking, I couldn’t seem to focus on anything besides the warmth blooming beneath Hannah’s light touch on my leg, even through my khakis.
“Yes, my mom and her sister are from here, but I grew up in Los Angeles,” Hannah was explaining to my mother. “My aunt had a little cottage on some land. A vineyard, actually. That’s why I came back. She left it to me.”
“Oh, I’m so sorry to hear of your loss.” Mom’s voice dropped its enthusiastic edge.
“Honestly, I barely knew my aunt,” Hannah said, and now she sounded sad too.
“What was her name?”
