For the first time in my life, I felt pure happiness. I was so stupid.

I closed my eyes back and mumbled “And I, you.” This is our forever new beginning…

Like warm sunlight spread inside my body, suffusing me with happiness and contentment. "Oh gosh baby, that's not just a wish but also a punch line," I said to him chuckling with mirth and joy. Laughter sparkled like an ember bursting into flame, burning two into happiness. I could feel his smiling even when apart, the joy being infectious and making me feel at home, carefree. Jubilee felt like a bubble inside, rising within me as though it would burst anytime into lightness and liberty.

The moments when she felt whole. She picked up her pen and began to write. I never thought I would be happy. I spent so long being scared. Scared of losing Silas. Scared of losing the apartment. Scared of losing myself. I did not think I deserved to be happy. But Ezra taught me that happiness is not something you earn. It is something you choose. Every day, I choose him. Every day, he chooses me. And every day, we build something new together. I do not know what the future holds. I do not know if we will stay in this apartment or move somewhere else. I do not know if I will ever publish my story or keep it hidden in a drawer.

I set my phone down and looked at Mark playing with Harper in the yard. Sunlight filtered through the leaves, casting dappled shadows over them. The pain I once thought would last forever now seemed like a fleeting fog in the river of life. I realized then that true happiness wasn't necessarily found in grand vows or dramatic gestures.
